Construction of an ephemeral architecture with Olivier Grossetête, Part One

Decentralised workshops taking place in the social centre Du temple and the community centre of Valenciennes City-Centre (Quanrtier Centre Ville de Valenciennes).

When the history of Valenciennes was related to the Spanish Netherlands’, Joyous Entries were glorified with ephemeral triumphal archs. This ritual was still existing under the reign of Napoleon III with the sailing arch decorated with two allegories, l’Escaut and la Rhondelle, Valenciennes being considered as the daughter of this river and its tributary.

Ephemeral architectures made by the plastic arstist from Marseilles Olivier Grossetête take a specific meaning during the closing of the exhibition. Welcoming everyone is a powerful symbol when the exhibition will close its doors!

Olivier Grossetête uses what we consider as “poor material” (cardboard) for making up a personal language. His ephemeral architectures will spread in the public space with the help of the an enormous projet which, beyond its ephemeral aspect, needs a big collective energy.

Oliver Grossetête invites people to a collective performance for building up an utopian architecture and following a childhood dream…

The workshop for preparing all the construction’s parts will be carried out in two stages:

– from the 14th of July 2018 to the 15th of July 2018 at social centre Dutemple

– from the 16th of July 2018 to the 18th of July 2018 at community centre Centre-Ville
